A second witness in a human rights case stemming from the dictatorship was kidnapped on 27 December. Unlike Jorge Julio López, who "disappeared" in September after testifying in a case against a retired police chief, Luis Gerez was released two days later. Gerez, like López a construction worker and a former Montonero, was kidnapped in Escobar, 40km north of Buenos Aires, while walking to the butcher's. He was tortured. This, he said, included cigarette burns to the chest, being struck around the head and having a pistol put in his mouth.End of preview - This article contains approximately 313 words.
